UK Independent Fingerprinting Experts
For over one hundred years identification by fingerprints has been and remains the primary method of individualisation of a person. It is often the most compelling scientific evidence found at a crime scene. It is based on the principle that no two fingerprints have ever been found to be the same (even identical twins) - fingerprinting experts are an invaluable contribution to any investigation where fingerprints are present.
DABS Fingerprints/Forensic Ltd has some of the most experienced UK Fingerprint Experts and its own independent fingerprint laboratory that utilises the various chemical development and enhancement techniques such as ‘Cyanoacrylate’ or Super Glue fuming, DFO, Ninhydrin and others.
The friction ridges that are formed on the inner surfaces of the fingers and palms (Palmar) of the hands (also the soles of the feet – planter) are fully formed some seventeen weeks after conception. Unless there is some physical or medical intervention they will remain unchanged throughout a person’s life. On the top joint of each finger and thumb the friction ridges form into well defined patterns i.e. arches, whorls, loops to name a few. Also the friction ridges form their own distinctive formation on the Palmar areas of the hands.
The constituents of the ‘sweat’ that is secreted from the Eccrine, Sebaceous and Apocrine glands through the pores found along the friction ridges, are formed of a large number of organic and inorganic chemicals. When the friction ridges come into contact with a suitably receptive surface a deposit of ‘sweat’ may be left which is usually referred to as a ‘latent print’. To make the ‘latent print’ more visible various fingerprint development powders and chemicals are used. The developed ‘latent print’ is recorded either by the use of the fingerprint ‘lifting’ or photographic techniques.
